New Release: Pharos 2013

The long-awaited! The last release of our premium red blend from Brick Bay was the 2010 vintage, but finally we can announce the release of the magnificent 2013 Pharos.

This deep crimson wine is an enticing blend of Petit Verdot, Malbec and Merlot. Earthy and floral aromas slowly lead into ripe dark summer stonefruit, liquorice and berries with hints of vanilla, star anise, cedar and chocolate. The palate, very tight and powerful, displays an intense core threaded through with dense velvety tannins, fine, bright fruit and a sturdy structure.

With only 242 cases made, this will indeed be a wine to treasure.

Brick Bay Folly Winner 2016

The philosophy behind the Brick Bay Sculpture Trust Folly Project is to support young emerging architects and to push the boundaries between sculpture and architecture. We're pleased to announce that the 2016 winners are: Ryan Mahon, Sacha Milojevic, Edward Roberts & Raphaela Rose with their stunning work, Daughter of the Swamp.

Defining a Folly as an architectural object that lacks a deliberate functional purpose, the 2016 winners have referenced the historic hinaki or eel trap and the legend of Maui who was first to catch the long eel, with his wife Hina, the Daughter of The Swamp.

Seemingly like a building envelope but, adhering to the traditions of the Folly, it provides no practical protection, only spatial definition. Instead it offers an interface between you and the surrounding landscape that is observed through gaps in the brightly coloured inter-laced steel. The steel, with its heavy associations of industrial progress and the modern age, is put to an unexpected, almost contradictory use in its emulation of a soft, traditional organic object. By overlapping and repeating these forms, an effect like that of the delicately woven eel traps is achieved.

Now on show 10-5pm daily

La Luna

La Luna

Titled  La Luna,  King creates a work representing half a moon cycle. The fourteen stainless steel spheres of La Luna reflect micro-views of the adjacent environment, the landscape, sky and life on the lake. Wind and water currents move the tranquil orbit of spheres as a single entity.

We also currently have on exhibition a new work by Ray Haydon, titled Pyxis, 2012, Carbon fibre (edition of 3).

New Release: Martello Rock 2013

2013 really was a dream year for us here at Brick Bay, with dry, hot conditions experienced throughout the vintage.  The Auckland region overall had the driest January in 70 years.

A harmonious blend of Malbec, Cabernet Franc and Merlot, this velvety -textured Martello Rock 2013, reveals blackberries, boysenberries and Doris plum notes and is a wonderful example from this stellar vintage.

At $28 a bottle this wine is unlikely to last long!
