About Brick Bay

Brick Bay is a place where creativity meets regeneration, set in the scenic surrounds of Matakana. This loved landscape has grown into a unique destination, combining our vineyard, sculpture trail, gardens and farm, all guided by sustainable practices and kaitiakitanga (stewardship of the land).

Our history is rooted in innovation, from pioneering sculpture displays to crafting wine. Today, we continue sharing Aotearoa’s natural beauty and artistry through experiences that leave visitors inspired, connected, and immersed in our evolving journey.

A Loved Landscape

Brick Bay is more than a destination - it's a vision nurtured by a family with a love for art, nature, and fine wine. Since 1986, we've poured our hearts into these 150 acres, transforming it into a place where creativity thrives, and the natural world is celebrated.

The land here slopes to the east coast at Brick Bay, preserving green space and forest between Snells Beach and Sandspit. Large parts of the property are established native bush, with stands of ancient Kauri. We have significant streams and wetlands, ponds and lakes.

New planting projects are continuously underway to enhance biodiversity.

Rolling pasture is used to farm sheep, producing our free-range lamb. Our orchards and gardens produce fruit, oil, nuts and vegetables to use in The Glass House.

Our Philosophy

We are privileged to be kaitiaki (guardians) of Brick Bay, nurturing the whenua to preserve its natural beauty and ensure its regeneration through sustainable actions.

Brick Bay is a collective effort, shaped by our team, community, and visitors. Our goal is to achieve financial, environmental, and social sustainability, securing its future for generations to come. We hope everyone who visits leaves with inspiration, creativity, or even the joy of a meal made from sustainably grown ingredients.

Sustainability at Brick Bay

For over 30 years, our vision has been to regenerate and preserve the Brick Bay landscape. What began as a family farm has evolved into a sanctuary of vineyards, native bush, and wetlands, woven together to support biodiversity and ecological health. Through careful stewardship, we’ve restored native habitats, planted wildflowers to encourage pollinators, and created a haven for birdlife, all while maintaining a working farm and vineyard that thrive in harmony with nature.

Sustainability at Brick Bay goes beyond practice—it’s a commitment woven into every aspect of what we do. From hand-tended vines and organic sprays in the vineyard to on-site recycling and rainwater use at The Glass House, every initiative is designed to minimise our impact while enhancing the environment. While we take care of the land, all you need to do is relax and enjoy everything Brick Bay has to offer.

  • Our History: From Clay to Creativity

Brick Bay's name plays homage to the clay soils of the land which enabled the emergence of a thriving hub for clay brickmaking in the 19th century. Over time, the landscape evolved, - ancient kauri forests gave way to farmland, but eventually in 1986 a family with a vision saw its potential to become something extraordinary.

In 1995, we planted our first vines, celebrating our first vintage just three years later. With a deep love for art and outdoor sculpture, we began the Sculpture Trail in 2004, opening it to the public alongside The Glass House in 2007.

Today, Brick Bay stands as a living, breathing story of hard work, passion and creativity.
